In 2024 I was invited to give a keynote address (in Indonesian) at the Indonesian national arts conservatory in Denpasar, Bali, on the intersections between my work on La Monte Young, minimalism, cosmology, and Balinese gamelan.
With I Nyoman Windha and I Gusti Agung Ayu Warsiki
In 2023 I collaborated with two of Bali’s most esteemed artists, the husband-and-wife team of composer I Nyoman Windha and I Gusti Agung Ayu Warsiki for a six-month joint residency in music and dance at BYU. The culmination of the collaboration was the creation and premiere performances of a new work for Balinese gamelan, choir, and percussion, called Leluhur (Ancestors).
II have taken several groups of students to study with I Made Lasmawan and perform with Gamelan Manik Galih for traditional concert and ceremonial performances in and around the small mountain village of Bangah, Bali. In 2018 I was invited by Professor Lasmawan to join his group for a performance at the International Gamelan Festival in Solo, Indonesia.
